Abracadabra! Alakazam! It's the Gift That Keeps On Giving!

And no, I'm not talking about the Jelly of the Month Club...

I’ve tried a few times to sit down and write about this, but to be honest, I just can’t figure out an eloquent and clever way to translate this information to you.  In part because it is hard to write about a magician and his magic wand and his magic kit and teaching you his tricks without sounding a little…you know…ummm…(all while skirting the "that's what she said" setups).

But you need to know all about this. Before Christmas.

Johnny Magic (and his amazing Mother of the Year wife Amanda) visited the ZPL studios and totally rocked! You guys, I regressed into a straight up child. After seeing one trick with a vase and a red ball, I mean, seriously, I was as giddy as a 5-year-old on Christmas morning.

Need proof? Watch this.

Even better, Johnny Magic’s magic kit is full of the top 12 things he wishes his 8-year-old, just-starting-out-magician self would’ve had. Complete with magic school videos to learn the tricks and gain confidence and a soundboard app to give you the full experience of putting on a real show. And by you, I totally mean your elementary-aged kid…or you.

Johnny shared some of his story with us in 2 incredible podcasts (Part 1 available here), and one of the things I loved about his story of discovering his true identity beyond the magician, digging deep in some of the messy parts of life, and building a genuine community of people where he is truly known, was the fact that he is sharing this gift of creating moments of wonder with the whole world – specifically kids 8 and up.

Our Radio Theology crew caught the magic bug – Daron ordered a magic kit on the spot and I relentlessly teased Ryan about not being able to figure out the trick with the spring and the ring. And I was feeling on top of the whole wide world when, after a 20-minute learning session, my card trick stumped the guys (although to be fair, my flair and presentation was a little lacking).

Now, this may seem super silly to you, and it kind of does to me too. But I’ve decided I’m going to chase the feeling of wonder this Christmas season – there’s not a better time to suspend my mom brain and embrace my inner child.

You can too. And buying this magic kit is a great first step – for your kids or for yourself. I mean, you should probably say it is for your kids, but then really you will enjoy it as much as they do. You can get it in 2 days through Amazon Prime. And you will not regret this decision.

Maybe magic isn’t your thing, and that’s cool. And you could also think this is the lamest post you’ve read so far, which is fine. But whatever you do, don’t miss out on the wonder of Christmas. Chase it down. Live in it for just a little while. ‘Tis the perfect season.

P.S. This is not an ad. This is just a crazy mom writing about a super fun experience, begging you to buy this magic kit and see if you don’t feel as fun and silly as I did.

P.P.S. Pro-tip – buy this kit now and practice some of the tricks so you can wow your kids on Christmas morning.
